The rise of F1 racing NFTs

Red Bull initially announced Tezos as its official blockchain partner back in May with a multi-year agreement that would see the companies working together to produce Red Bull’s first-ever NFT fan experience. The agreement also saw Red Bull adding the Tezos branding to its official liveries, but it’s only now that we have begun to see tangible results.

They aren’t the first F1 team to launch their own NFTs either, with McLaren also partnering with Tezos in June to launch its first NFT collection, which was released on Tezos blockchain in October this year. The ‘McLaren Racing Collective’ allows fans to collect components of the MCL35M 2021 Formula One Race Car.

Both Red Bull and McLaren’s NFT collections are available through the Sweet NFT platform, which added support for Tezos just last month.

Tezos and NFTs

Launched in 2018, Tezos is an open-source blockchain that can be utilized for building applications that make use of smart contracts and provides developers with an alternative to Ethereum.

Tezos launched support for the minting of NFTs on its blockchain platform relatively recently and, whilst its utilization pales in comparison to Ethereum, has quickly established itself as a notable runner-up. This is, in part, thanks to partnerships with established brands such as McLaren and Red Bull, which have helped to spur greater levels of adoption.
